SRM - Mitsubishi Electric
Center of Excellence in Factory Automation

About the Centre:

The Center of Excellence in Factory Automation was established in Collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric, India. A memorandum of understanding was signed for a joint training center which is aimed to train the students in the automation field and create industry-ready trained professional. This industry-readiness and relevance of skills will attract better career opportunities for the students. The center is equipped with various modules of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Servo systems and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). Our faculties are trained on these modules with hands-on experience by subject matter experts from Mitsubishi Electric. The center offers skill development program on factory automation to the interested students.

Course Modules:

MODULE 1 – PLC

Programmable logic controllers (PLC) are now the most widely used industrial process control technology. The PLC is basically a digital computer designed for use in machine control.

Basic electrical components – basics of relay logic – PLC architecture and Peripherals – Ladder

Programming using GX Works 3 – basic and advanced ladder instructions – Introduction to Function block Programming – Development of simple projects using PLC- Real time applications

MODULE 2 – HMI Programming

Human-machine interface (HMI) development aims at designing and building user-friendly software for industrial machinery operation. HMI is an industrial computer which is used to communicate between the PLC and the operator of the manufacturing floor.

GS 2000 Hardware overview – GOT communication with PLC – alarms and annunciator – Data logging and Network Monitoring – HMI programming with GT designer – Development of simple projects using GT designer.

MODULE 3 – Servo Drives

Servo Motor Basics & Structure – Types of Encoder – Signal Connections with Positioning Controllers : FX PLC – Servo Display – Monitoring & Test Operations – Servo Programming – Servo Amplifier Parameter Setting – Servo Applications : Case Study discussion
